Bergen County's Animal Welfare Organization

Finding Families for Homeless Animals

FOCAS is a nonprofit animal welfare organization that provides protection and finds loving homes for animals in need. Since 1984, we have been providing a range of services and programs to help abandoned, homeless, and injured animals at the Bergen County Animal Shelter and in the community. In 2015 alone, we rescued approximately 300 cats and dogs, and placed them in adoptive homes. All these animals receive in-home foster care until they found their forever families. We would like to introduce you to some easy ways that you can save a life without disrupting yours.

About FOCAS

The Bergen County Animal Shelter was built in 1978, but a group of volunteers thought it should be more than just a pound. FOCAS was born in 1984 in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, in order to protect the well-being of the animals at the shelter and throughout Bergen County.

In March of 2014, we were honored by the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association for enhancing the human-animal bond.

Mission Statement
FOCAS is a 100%-volunteer, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) humane charity established in 1984 for the protection, preservation, and well-being of homeless animals.
